Link Building Strategies for SEO

While your aim is to get links for your website so that you can increase your number of users and get a higher position in the search engines, it is better to have a strategy or goal than just going around willy-nilly. By keeping a spreadsheet or diary, for instance, you can progress easily and get better links because everything is systematic. But if you have no idea how to proceed, we can help with some basic link building strategies for SEO.

Anchor Text:

Anchor text is the text upon which your link is placed, and is very important as a link building strategy for SEO. Remember that search engines not only read your content like your users do, but they also read your code or programing. So you must make sure that you are getting links that help you with SEO and not hinder your link building efforts.

Example - When another site links to you, they need to link on some text, whether it be "more information here", the site name, or a descriptive phrase. Now you can see, there is no value for either your users or the search engines in "more info here". The site name is a little better, but it really does not provide any insight into your website. The most effective term is a phrase or keyword. Using something that clearly and obviously describes your website and "targets" your keyword is best for SEO. An example phrase would be "porsche insurance for teenagers". This strategy works well in your article marketing, too. More information on anchor texts can be found in our article on the importance of link building for SEO.

Three Way Links:

Reciprocal links are fine and it is nice to help each other but they should not be your only or main focus. Finding "three-way links" are more productive nowadays, as they hold greater credence with the search engines than two-way links.

Example - As the name implies, three different domain names must be involved in a three way link. To do this, maybe you agree to give a site a link but instead of linking directly back to the site, you use another site to give a link. Let's say you own site A and site B. They own site C. Site C gives site B a link. And then site A gives site C a link so that no two sites are linked in a reciprocal manner but rather, three links from three different places. This link strategy is stronger in terms of SEO.

Link Wheels or Link Hubs:

These are a lot harder to do and take some time as well. It can get very confusing so this is where your spreadsheet will come in handy. Ideally, when you submit an article or you build a free blog, you need to be responsible for getting links there as well. You see, others are not going to work at getting links to your article. And for that article or free blog to gain any credence and become stronger with the search engines, it too needs a vote of confidence. Once that article gets a link, then linking to your site becomes stronger and is better for SEO.

Example - You build a free "xomba" blog about car harnesses for little dogs. You add your content and at some point link to your main site. But then you have to link to the xomba blog as well. And not from your site. You have to write something for an article directory, linking to it or you have to go to another free blog site and write about harnesses thus linking to your original free blog. And because there can be MANY links involved, you need to keep track of everything.

It is true that all of this is a lot of work, but you will reap the rewards of what you sow. There is no doubt that following link building strategies for SEO will make you a successful online entrepreneur.
